An agreement of understanding between the government and the private sector to strengthen the local agricultural sector.

An agreement of understanding has been signed between the government and the private sector to strengthen the local agricultural sector. The agreement anticipates to expedite the production of local bee honey, cucumber, tomatoes and passion fruit. The aim is to fulfil 50 percent of the local bee honey requirement. Currently the national agricultural expansion programmes are being implemented in 12 districts.

The International Agricultural Development Fund has come forward to assist this programme. The projects are currently being successfully implemented in Jaffna, Kilinochchi and Badulla districts. The funds are being utilized for the construction of tube wells and wells for cultivation purposes as well as for the procurement of agricultural equipment. The development programmes are being implemented by the national agricultural entrepreneur development programme under the divi Neguma national project.
