SECURITY WARNING ISSUED US CITIZENS CAUTIONED IN SRI LANKA

The US Government has issued a security alert to American citizens living in Sri Lanka and those who are touring the country relating to parliamentary elections scheduled to be held in the country on 17 August.

The US Government has warned that the Parliamentary Election to be held in Sri Lanka could spawn violence and as a result all American citizens should keep themselves abreast of developments by following trends in the Sri Lankan media.
The US Government has also warned Americans not to participate in election propaganda meetings and rallies as well, the statement said.

Meanwhile, two weeks ago, the Australian Government also issued a similar warning to Australians in Sri Lanka in connection with the 17 August General Election.
