Who is a leader ?
A leader will never change his policies. He will never bow down sinister moves and threats. A real leader will have the courage and determination to carry forward the work he has been doing before. Leader takes care about the people who work under him.
Leadership has been described as “a process of social influence in which a person can enlist the aid and support of others in the accomplishment of a common task“. For example, some understand a leader simply as somebody whom people follow, or as somebody who guides or directs others, while others define leadership as “organizing a group of people to achieve a common goal“.Studies of leadership have produced theories involving traits, situational interaction, function, behavior, power, vision and values, charisma, and intelligence, among others.
“
Fortune Magazine published a ranking of the world’s 50 best leaders late last week, pulling together a global list that includes heads of state, nonprofit leaders, sports luminaries and — this being Fortune — plenty of CEOs. Rounding out the top five are Pope Francis, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Ford Motor Co. CEO Alan Mulally, investor Warren Buffett and former president Bill Clinton, who also answered a few questions about how he thinks about leadership for the magazine.
Such a list is, by definition, subjective. (The magazine says it limited its list to currently active leaders; it asked leadership experts and Fortune reporters to suggest candidates and then vetted the ideas with people in each industry.) Any ranking of something as abstract as leadership — particularly one that crosses industries — is hardly something that can be judged by hard numbers or strict data, and is bound to generate plenty of debate. Indeed, that’s probably the point: Is Alan Mulally a better leader than Burmese opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi? Should DuPont CEO Ellen Kullman rank above Apple’s Tim Cook? Why is Bono listed ahead of the Dalai Lama? “

Leadership Quality
We can see different leadership qualities of different personalities. History teaches us a lot in this subject.
Sarath fonseka was sidelined by Chandrika Kumarathunga , but MR gave him the highest post and gave all authorities to carry out the war. Actually SF helped to finish the war , but looked a big prize from MR. Later SF turned against MR. But SF told in a recent media conference , that when he went for the presidential election in 2010, many opposition elements supported him and promoted, but the moment he lost the election , not a single dog was around him. This is the nature, who knows , it can happen to Maithripala as well.In the meantime , TNA looks like taking a balance line, trying to cautious in making final decision. TNA does not want to take a wrong decision like before. Even the tamil people will not make a wrong decision this time.TNA might think differently this time. They will support the winning horse. TNA has also understood onething very clearly is that , even if they support the losing horse, the vote base of TNA is insufficient to make a loser a winner. But TNA has appreciate the president Mahinda Rajapaksa’s efforts to hand over the gold jewelers which LTTE forcibly took away from tamil people in wanni.
Muslim congress is also in disarray. They are also not decided on anything. But muslim intellectuals say that you vote against the winning horse and once the candidate won , rallying around him is a major blunder and people will not accept it.
Opposition candidate Maithripala said that he has some files regarding some VIPs. President Rajapaksa in reply also said that he has some files which are more serious than others.
Nominations are given – Now the Race is on
Countdown starts….
19 candidates look for the most prestigious number one citizen position in this election. Everyone has a plan and policy. Whose plan is pragmatic ? we need to look at each other and analyze the profile. This includes the past and present performance. When you analyse the performance , there are certain factors which you have to look into. Some of them are Policies, throughput, efficiency, leadership, outlook, speech, conflict management, critical situation management, political stability and situational approach intelligence. How many candidates do have this abilities. How many of them have proved that they can manage this. Some candidates have not got any such opportunities to show these results. But some of them are not capable in nature. But some have shown their performance within the limitations. One of the main responsibility of a country leader to maintain a sustainable economic growth.
Leader’s quality to improve on the economy of the country
Many factors contribute to the economic development of the country.
Though a lot of attention is not needed when a country is moving forward steadily, we should not be complacent and underestimate anything as there are external and internal challenges on our path. Few things we cannot take it for granted. The country has the right method to achieve 8 percent economic growth and the growth is visible in infrastructure and many areas including service sector.
Sri Lanka has recorded low level of poverty and hopes to reduce it to 2 percent in a few year’s time after the end of hostilities. Things have changed the mindset of the people and built the level of confidence with the reduction of poverty and unemployment. Electricity supply is expected to reach the entire population by March next year.
There have been a series of actions to achieve this. With effective planning and implementation, the country now has developed a road network which facilitates better transportation. Funding is necessary for the entrepreneurs to progress. The country’s stable and strong banking and financial system has improved to meet the needs of this sector. With Vision 2020, the country is on the correct path to make Sri Lanka reach a per capita income of US $ 7,500.
Even exchanges between UPFA and UNP
Few weeks ago, the general secretary of SLFP Maithripala Sisrisena crossed over to Opposition. But on the day of nominations the general secretary of UNP parliamentarian Tissa Attanayake crossed over to UPFA. The impact of Maithripala crossing over to Opposition was completely overdone by Tissa Attanayake crossing over to UPFA. The significant point here is that Tissa crossed over on a crucial day where everyone was looking at the nominations.
“General Secretary of Sri Lanka’s main opposition United National Party, MP Tissa Attanayake has crossed over to the government.According to media reports, President Mahinda Rajapaksa had commented that the former UNP general secretary had joined the ruling party.
The President has made this comment addressing the public outside the Election Secretariat in Rajagiriya after handing over his nomination.
Earlier on the day of accepting nominations for presidential election, the UNP senior party member handed over his resignation from the post to the party leader, party sources said. “
He pledged his support to MR.Like Maithripala , Tissa Attanayake is also dedicated member of the party. Mr Attanayake worked for his party’s unity in difficult times. In dramatic change , Mr Attanayake crossed over to UPFA. Tissa Attanayake has written a long letter to UNP leader Ranil stating that, Maithripala coming to opposition will not do any justice to UNP.it will further demoralize or destroy the unity and downgrade the value of UNP.
“ No one other than the god knows what is going in the mind of a common man. This is the truth which is difficult to digest. One could change his mind in a second. But these changes should lead to prosperity of not only one but to the society. When a person changes his mind he or she should think about the country as well. Without country there is no citizen. So it is expected that all citizen should think positively before taking a decision. Change is the only factor which does not change in this world. We need to wait and see how Maithripala and Tissa Attanayake’s change of minds make reactions on the public.Whatever said and done , it is the common ordinary man who will decide the fate of this country through the vote.”
