Today marks the 69th United Nations Day. The UN was officially established on October 24th 1945 with the objectives of maintaining global peace and security, strengthening solidarity among nations and to find solution for socio economic and cultural issues throughout the world.
At first there were 51 members in this organization. Sri Lanka joined it on the 14th December 1955. To mark the 69th UN day a special ceremony will be held at the UN premises at Baudhaloka Mawatte, Colombo 07 under the patronage of Minister Professor G.L.Pieris.
