Hindus world over celebrate Deepavali festival today. Issuing a message for Deepavali President Mahinda Rajapaksa says this event marks the beginning of the Hindu New Year, according to the Lunar Calendar, and is a day of great religious fervour and festivity for the Hindu community. It celebrates the victory of Goodness over Evil and Light over darkness. It is thus the deeper celebration of the Light of Knowledge over the Darkness of Ignorance, leading to the triumph of Good over Evil. The President wishes all Hindus of Sri Lanka a happy and peaceful Deepavali.
