The International Day for the Eradication of Poverty falls today. This day is celebrated every year on October 17 throughout the world.
It was officially recognised by the United Nations, but the first commemoration of the event took place in Paris, France, in 1987 when 100,000 people gathered on the Human Rights and Liberties Plaza at the Trocadéro to honour victims of poverty, hunger, violence and fear. Statistic report shows local poverty rate in 1990/1991 period is in 26 percent. In the year 2006/2007 period it was 15.7 percent. The poverty rate has gone down to 8.9 percent from 2011 up to now.
