14th Death Anniversary of late Prime Minister Sirimavo Bandaranaike falls today. She was a Sri Lankan politician and the modern world’s first female Prime Minister. She served as Prime Minister of Ceylon and Sri Lanka three times, 1960–65, 1970–77 and 1994–2000, and was a long-time leader of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party.

All island women’s organization of the SLFP has organized many programmes to commemorate the late Prime Minister. Accordingly a religious ceremony and Pirith chanting was held last night at the Wipassana Meditation center in Colombo 7. Alms will be offered for 59 bikkus this morning. 50 pregnant mothers will also be provided with foods and dry rations.
