Pictorial warnings on tobacco products will appear in Sri Lanka from the 1st of January.

The Health Ministry says adding pictorial warnings on packets of tobacco products will help to minimize smoking to a certain extent. Head of the non communicable disease unit in the ministry Dr. Thilak Siriwardena says the government has to spend a large sum of money for treatment for the persons who fall ill due to smoking. Some injections given to cancer patients are amounting to 1.5 million rupees. A wider attention has been focused globally to discourage smoking. Pictorial warnings on tobacco products will appear in Sri Lanka from the 1st of January.
