Sri Lanka’s cricket governing body, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) today has appointed interim coach Marven Atapattu as the head coach of the Sri Lanka national cricket team.
The decision to appoint former Sri Lankan cricket captain was taken by the 11-member committee appointed to select a permanent coach for the national team met today under the patronage of SLC Vice President Asanga Senevirathne.
Sri Lanka Cricket received 17 applications – one local and 16 foreign – for the post of National Coach. Interim coach Marvan Atapattu, Marx Ramprakash of England, Eric Simons and Michy Arthur both from South Africa were among the hot picks for the post.
The Committee has also decided to appoint former World Cup winning national coach Dav Whatmore, who just finishes a coaching stint with Pakistani national team, as the assistant coach.
The Committee’s decision will be submitted to the Sri Lanka Cricket Executive Committee for final approval.
