Trade Unions commend the government headed by the President for providing relief to the masses reducing electricity charges and fuel prices. Secretary of the Sri Lanka Independent Workers’ Union Lesley Devendra says that the President has fulfilled his pledge to reduce the electricity charges by 25 percent. It is a big relief for the masses. The President always acts on the well being of the people. Mr. Devendra firmly rejected opposition charges that reduction of power charges is a political ploy.
He added that the UNP which had deceived the people through false promises such as 8 pounds of grain today is unable to bear the relief being granted to the masses.
President of the Public services trade union federation W.H. Piyadasa said that the electricity charge reduction and the fall in the kerosene price is a massive consolation to the people.
Secretary of the Ceylon Labour Union central council Somaweera Chandrasiri says that all citizens are being benefited by the price reduction. He adds that the respect and the commendations of the entire working class of the nation should be bestowed upon the President and the government for taking measures to minimize the cost of living.
