The Central Bank informed that there has been a steep increase in the foreign exchange remittances received from overseas employed Sri Lankans. A ten percent increase has been recorded this year compared to the same period last year. 4,515 million US dollars have been received in the first eight months of this year and this has contributed for the strengthening of the Sri Lankan economy. The bank pointed out that there are over
1.7 million Sri Lankans employed overseas and out of them 1.2 million are employed in the Middle East countries.
